Drivers License Point System

How Colorado’s Drivers License Point System Works…

For each conviction of a traffic violation or driving charge, in accordance with the Drivers License Point System, the court notifies the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) of the conviction and a certain amount of points is assessed to your driver’s license record. A conviction occurs when you plead guilty to a charge, are found guilty at trial, mail in a penalty assessment fine amount, or fail to appear in court, in some cases.

Point Assessments For Traffic Violations

The amount of points assessed under the Drivers License Point System against a person’s driver’s license for a conviction of traffic violation is determined by law, and point assessments for some common traffic charges are:

I was wrongly Traffic Ticketed 8 points after a three car accident. David Colt and his firm were recommended to me by a co worker. After visiting with an associate of the firm, I confidently hired them. David Colt spoke with me for 1 hour by phone. He gathered information about my background, and specifics on the accident. His firm then went to work to put my case together. A pre-trail conference was scheduled that I did not have to attend. The results were a dismissal of the 8 points. A penalty of 1 point for a faulty headlight and a fine of half of what this type of case usually brings to the courts. I was questioning my decision on getting any traffic lawyer but it literally saved my license. Dave is a smart polite articulate guy who knows his way around traffic law. My case I was looking at a 16 point speeding ticket on top of many priors, he got it reduced to 6 which blew my mind. My notion of lawyers before this was that all they wanted was the money out of your pocket.
