SR-22 Liability Insurance

If you have been administratively determined to have committed or have gotten a conviction for certain violations (e.g. Failing to Provide Proof of Insurance) or if you are seeking to reinstate your driving privileges after certain types of restraints, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) may require you to obtain and file proof of SR-22 Liability Insurance. This type of liability insurance coverage has a rider to the insurance policy where the insurance company guarantees that the liability insurance coverage will remain in effect for a certain period of time. When the policy is purchased and every time it is renewed, the insurance company sends to DMV a form confirming the insurance coverage. If coverage expires or is cancelled, your insurance company will immediately notify DMV and your driver’s license will be automatically suspended.
